Translations of Waltari's detective novel Who Murdered Mrs. Skrof into Czech
Abstract
This bachelor thesis examines the Czech translations of the detective novel Kuka murhasi rouva Skrofin? by the Finnish writer Mika Waltari and published in 1939. This novel has been translated into Czech three times so far - by Ivan Loskot (1941), Milada Krausová-Lesná (1946) and Jan Petr Velkoborský (1989). The first two translations used the title Kdo zavraždil paní Krollovou?, the last one was published under the title Kdo zavraždil paní Skrofovou?. The aim of this work is to confirm or refute two theses. The first is that the name Ivan Loskot is a pseudonym for Krausová-Lesná. The second is that the translations published in 1941 and 1946 were indirect.
