The relationship between body composition and success in competitions of Czech alpine skiing representatives (man and junior) in the 2023/2024 season
Abstract
Introduction: Somatic characteristics are among the key determinants of sports performance; however, in the Czech context there is a lack of detailed data on body build and body composition in national team alpine skiers. Aim: The aim of this study was to analyse the relationship between selected anthropometric parameters of Czech alpine ski representatives (junior and men's categories) and their competition performance assessed by FIS points, and to numerically characterise their body build through presentation in tables and graphs. Methods: The research sample consisted of 13 Czech national team alpine skiers in the junior and men's categories. Standardised anthropometric measurements (body height, body mass), body composition analysis (proportion of body fat, proportion of fat-free mass, proportion of total body water, bone mineral content) and resting energy expenditure of basal metabolism were obtained. Performance was assessed using FIS points in slalom, giant slalom, super-G and downhill. Data were processed using descriptive statistics and Pearson's correlation coefficient at a significance level of α = 0,1. Results: In total, 28 correlation relationships were analysed. For body height, body mass, proportion of fat-free mass and resting energy expenditure of basal metabolism, medium...
