Pietro Ellero a Bologna. Il giurista e il professore nelle carte d’archivio
Abstract
Th is essay examines the fi rst decade of Pietro Ellero’s activity (1860- 1870), a central figure in Italian legal culture between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Drawing on the correspondence preserved in the Ellero Archive, it highlights his intense relationships with leading fi gures in national criminal law and sheds light on the processes through which the academic teaching class was formed in post-unifi cation Italy. By retracing the intellectual development of the Friulian jurist – from his abolitionist engagement to his appointment at the University of Bologna – the study focuses in particular on his refusal of the Roman appointment in 1872, interpreted as an expression of intellectual autonomy and a rejection of Savoyard centralism.
