Abstract

Patient and public perspectives are essential drivers for improving healthcare quality and advancing patient-centered care.Free-text data provides rich insights into understanding patient and public perspectives, but routine analysis remains limited due to resource constraints and methodological challenges.Topic modeling offers a scalable computational approach to identify themes in large text, but a systematic review of method selection and application to this specific domain is lacking. The aim of this study is to systematically map the landscape of topic modeling applications in analyzing patient and public perspectives in healthcare, including the methods employed and their selection rationale, data sources utilized, research purposes, key findings, and methodological challenges, ultimately providing guidance to improve methodological standards in this field.
