Abstract

Reflective Memo: I enjoyed writing this essay and found it very interesting to write. The process of interviewing my dad was special to me because I was able to hear his story and opinions of his job as a guide.I have followed in his footsteps and have become a guide as well, so it was neat to hear how he got started in the business.I love writing in a way that tells a story and someone can have a vivid picture of the scene in his or her head. While writing the profile essay, it was a little bit harder to do this.I was worried that I was doing too much "telling" of my dad's job instead of "showing" it.I struggled with this the most-setting up the essay in a way that the story would flow naturally. After interviewing my dad, I started the process of taking those answers and putting them into different sections and orders to make a story.I would write a paragraph usually around a quote, so it would be explained before and after.I really like the description in my essay, and I hope that readers can picture themselves as guests at Battle River Wilderness Retreat, being guided by Tim Conway.
