Abstract

Everyone is familiar with phishing, a cyber attack that aims to steal sensitive information by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in electronic communications. When working in a corporate environment, employees are often the first line of defence against such attacks. To enhance their ability to recognize and respond to phishing attempts, organizations frequently conduct simulated phishing tests. This thesis explores the effects of these simulated phishing tests on employee morale within a corporate setting. The study was carried out in a mid-sized company, where employees were informed about the phishing tests in advance to ensure transparency. We surveyed employees before and after a pre-announced phishing simulation (N = 244, n = 73 repeated). Repeated measures ANOVA showed no significant Survey * Phished interaction on job satisfaction.
