Abstract

Introduction: Among the challenges faced by Cuban medical universities is increasing the possibilities for using Information and Communication Technologies applied to institutional vocational guidance strategies. Objective: To investigate the use of information and communication technologies as an invaluable resource in the vocational guidance process towards medical science careers, with special attention to Nursing. Methods: A literature review was conducted of documents such as original and review articles by Cuban and Latin American authors, as well as research works published in institutional repositories of Latin American universities. Articles available in different databases like SciELO, Scopus, Dialnet, Latindex, Redalyc, DOAJ, EBSCO that addressed the selected topic, published in Spanish between 2018 and 2024, were selected. Development: Information and Communication Technologies are an excellent complement for vocational guidance processes as they cannot replace the work of the counselor. In Cuban and Latin American universities, there are several examples that demonstrate work aimed at vocational guidance with the mediation of new technologies. Conclusions: An investigation was conducted on the use of Information and Communication Technologies as a resource in the vocational guidance process towards medical science careers, including Nursing. Insufficiencies were noted in this regard within the actions or institutional vocational guidance strategies in Cuba and the Latin American region.
