Abstract

Prairie Surrealism: The hawk's forward gaze evokes both surveillance of the landscape and the perspective of flight, recalling the ways contemporary research - from aviation and unmanned aircraft systems to environmental science and conservation - depends upon new ways of seeing. In this sense, Hawk-ey is less a portrait of a mascot than an emblem of interdisciplinary inquiry, where the natural world inspires technological advancement and innovation remains rooted in place.
