Abstract

Despite the fact that many marathons take place in spring or fall and usually in the morning hours, all marathon events are experiencing an increase in “heat races” due to rising global temperatures. Despite general measures such as hydration stands and medical care on site, there is a lack of tested heat protection concepts and information material for volunteers and participants at running events. For this reason, marathon participants will be asked about prevention and health literacy in the area of heat using an online questionnaire tool (LimeSurvey, compliant with the GDPR). The questionnaire will also be expanded to include a number of questions on painkiller consumption and injuries before and during the race. The questionnaire cannot be assigned to the participants' real names and is collected anonymously. The direct link to the survey tool will be provided by the organizers of the respective marathons in cooperation with the study team.
