Abstract

The rate of incarceration of women in the United States is higher than that of almost any other country in the world (Prison Policy Initiative). Maternal healthcare is not standardized in carceral settings. How does access to health information during pregnancy and childbirth improve outcomes and access to care for pregnant people who are incarcerated? The purpose of this study is to determine what maternal health programs and services are available to incarcerated women and determine how well they improve maternal health outcomes.
