Tense And Aspects In Gtaʔ - A Severely Endangered South Munda Language
Abstract
This project contains materials related to the paper Tense and Aspects in Gtaʔ: A Severely Endangered South Munda Language, accepted for in-person poster presentation at the 35th Annual Meeting of the Southeast Asian Linguistics Society (SEALS 35), to be held at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in June 2026. The paper examines the tense–aspect system of Gtaʔ, a severely endangered South Munda language, with the aim of documenting its grammatical structure and contributing to ongoing discussions in Austroasiatic and South Asian linguistics. The study analyses verbal morphology, aspectual distinctions, and temporal reference strategies, drawing on primary linguistic data collected through fieldwork and language documentation practices. By situating Gtaʔ within the broader typological and areal context of South Munda languages, the research highlights both language-internal features and contact-induced influences. Given the critically endangered status of Gtaʔ, the study also contributes to broader efforts in language documentation and preservation. This OSF project serves as a repository for the conference abstract, developing manuscript, and associated research materials.
