Genetische diversiteit van bovien virale diarreevirus in Ethiopië om vaccinstammen te selecteren: Kansen om vaccinontwikkeling te verbeteren via immuno-informatica en faagdisplay technologie
Abstract
Summary: Bovine viral diarrhea is a disease caused by the Bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) in the genus Pestivirus, family Flaviviridae. The disease has a significant economic impact on cattle-producing industries (dairy and beef) and is highly prevalent worldwide, becoming an emerging disease in Africa, especially in Ethiopia. In Ethiopia, the dairy industry is expanding; however, diseases such as BVDV are becoming a barrier to the sector's growth. The goal of this project is to enhance animal health and increase dairy farm production and productivity through effective disease prevention and control programs for BVD. This will involve studying the isolation and genomic diversity of the virus, identifying candidate vaccine strains, and designing a next-generation vaccine based on phage display technology for disease prevention. Additionally, capacity building in terms of knowledge and skills will be provided to the biotechnology laboratory in Ethiopia.
