Analyse morphologique du verbe kabyle — Régularité, irrégularité et défectivité en taqbaylit
Abstract
This working paper presents a systematic morphological analysis of the Kabyle verb (taqbaylit), based on a corpus of 1,771 simple verbs attested in contemporary usage. The analysis proposes a classification into four aspectual stems (izri ilaw, izri ibaw, urmir, urmir ussid), departing from the classical binary perfective/imperfective model inherited from earlier descriptions of the language. It describes the structural patterns of basic and derived verbs, their distribution across four morphological groups (G1–G4), and three specific phenomena: regularity, irregularity by aspectual suppletion, and verbal defectiveness — notions hitherto absent from the specialized Berber linguistics literature on Kabyle. The notion of defective verb is particularly developed: a verb is considered defective when one or more of its aspectual forms are no longer attested in contemporary usage. This work draws on the monograph Amyag n teqbaylit. Asesmel n talyīwin n yimyagen akked tesftay-nsen (Bouamara, Boussekine, 2024).
