Att tillhandahålla omvårdnad till flyktingar : En allmän litteraturöversikt ur ett sjuksköterskeperspektiv
Abstract
Background: Refugees are a vulnerable patient group that often faces difficulties in contact with healthcare. Nurses have a great responsibility in the care of these patients, but at the same time face several challenges in their work. Purpose: The purpose of this literature review was to investigate nurses' experiences of providing care to refugees in healthcare. Method: General literature review based on eleven scientific articles, nine of which had a qualitative approach and two quantitative approaches. Results: Four main categories were identified: challenges in communication, intercultural awareness in healthcare, structural barriers and ethical dilemmas. Language barriers emerged as one of the most significant challenges for nurses in the care of refugees and limited the possibilities to offer person-centered care. Lack of resources, time and clear guidelines further limited the nurses' work. Ethical dilemmas arose when nurses experienced powerlessness in the face of factors that were beyond their control. Conclusion: The care of refugees is characterized by cultural, linguistic and structural challenges that affect both nurses and the ability to provide person-centered care. Improving care requires knowledge in multicultural nursing, good communication skills and organizational support.
