A Novel Self-Cooling Electric Motor Topology Integrating Magnetocaloric Yoke Driven by Intrinsic Alternating Magnetic Fields
Abstract
AbstractThis paper proposes a disruptive solid-state self-cooling architecture for high-power-density electric motors. By replacing conventional silicon steel yokes with Magnetocaloric Effect (MCE) materials (e.g., La-Fe-Si alloys), the proposed system leverages the inherent high-frequency alternating magnetic fields of the rotor to drive a cyclic magnetocaloric heat pump. Theoretical derivations suggest that the cooling capacity scales proportionally with motor speed, effectively eliminating the need for liquid coolants in extreme performance scenarios like the "Air $\alpha$" hypercar concept.
