Intertrochanteric Femur Fractures: How to Avoid Pitfalls.
Abstract
Orthopaedic surgeons often treat patients with intertrochanteric femur fractures. These fractures usually result from a low-impact injury in the elderly population, with the goal of prompt surgical intervention usually within 24 to 48 hours. There are two common implants used in the management of such injuries: a cephalomedullary nail or a sliding hip screw. However, there are pitfalls that need to be avoided to ensure a successful outcome. Several tips and techniques can be used to avoid these pitfalls during intertrochanteric femur fracture fixation with a cephalomedullary nail.
