Abstract

Since its launch in 2017, Nutri-Score has gradually become established as the simplified front-of-pack nutrition labelling system in France. Based on a scale from A to E combined with a colour code, it aims to help consumers compare the nutritional quality of foods within a given category at the point of purchase. Its adoption, however, relies on voluntary participation by food companies. The objective of this report is to assess changes in the market shares of companies committed to the Nutri-Score across food sectors and market segments. In June 2025, 1,462 companies were committed to the Nutri-Score in France, compared with 1,377 in June 2024. Between 2018 and 2023, the estimated market share of committed brands increased, although this growth slowed between 2021 and 2023. It then stabilised between 2023 and 2024 at 64% of sales volumes, before declining slightly in 2025 to 63% of sales volumes. This figure includes 32% for retailer brands, 20% for national brands, and 11% for other market segments. At sector level, between 2024 and 2025, the estimated market shares, in sales volumes, of committed brands remained broadly stable across almost all food sectors monitored, with the exception of Breakfast Cereals (-4 percentage points) and Dairy Products and Fresh Desserts (-3 percentage points). At market segment level, the market shares, in sales volumes, of committed brands have remained relatively stable and above 60% since 2023 for retailer brands, whether economy private labels or other retailer brands (99% to 100%), hard discount brands (70%), and specialised retailers (65%). However, the market shares of committed national brands have increased only moderately since 2021: they rose from 33% to 39% between 2021 and 2024, before decreasing slightly to 37% in 2025. Finally, a strong increase in the market shares of committed brands among specialised organic retailers was observed between 2024 and 2025, rising from 1% to 11% of sales volumes.
