TalBot: An LLM-based robot assisted language learning system for children with language vulnerabilities

Children with language vulnerabilities need extra support in their language development.In an attempt to provide this kind of support, we present an LLM-based robot system which we call TalBot, which plays the language game Alias with children that have language vulnerabilities.The system can manage the game, provide emotionally relevant gestures, give adaptive responses and manage turn-taking.From our initial testing, we could observe that the system managed to play the game and that children seemed to like it.It was also apparent that the speech recognition was a major hurdle, considering our target group.We will in the future explore solutions to further mitigate this problem and we encourage other researchers to do likewise.
