Dynamic Integer Processing
Abstract
This project investigates how adults mentally represent negative integers during symbolic number comparison. Participants completed a computerized magnitude comparison task involving positive, negative, and mixed-sign number pairs, along with executive function measures assessing working memory, inhibitory control, and cognitive flexibility. The study examines whether adults rely on componential (sign + magnitude) or holistic representations of negative numbers, and how these representations vary across task contexts (e.g., simultaneous vs. sequential presentation). The dataset includes trial-level responses, accuracy, and reaction times for the comparison task, along with individual difference measures.
