Breathing Life into the Past Through Biofiction
Abstract
This interview with Romanian biofiction writer Florina Ilis discusses the challenges of fictionalizing the figure of 19th century poet Mihai Eminescu, the disputed centre of the Romanian literary canon. Cernat and Ilis address a wide range of contextual factors which have influenced Eminescu's canonization. They tackle questions like mythification versus mythography, metabiofiction, and the distinction between biofiction and biographie romancée in order to reach profound conclusions about the nature of Life Writing.
