The nineteenth-century contributions to the geology of Sinaloa by Friedrich Gottreich Weidner
Abstract
The stored items of this prject include digital duplicates of the three unpublished handwritten Weidner manuscripts: “Estudios Geognósticos hechos en el camino de Viesca para Durango tocando en los puntos de Matamoros, Sombreretillo, Cabeza y Cuencamé,” “Las minas de Sinaloa. Compendio de noticias geológicas, mineralógicas y estadísticas acerca de las minas de Sinaloa,” and "Hüttenkunde," a monograph about the extraction of metals from ores (in German). It further includes a transcription of the first of these three documents and of the handwritten description by Weidner on Figure 5 (location map and cross section of the mine settlement El Rosario). It also includes duplicates of three sources of rare availability: An unpublished 1860 geological cross section between Mazatlán and Durango by Federico Weidner; his 1866 publication “The silver mines of Mexico: Prospectus of the Sinaloa Silver Mining Company of the City of New York;” and the explanatory notes to the 1873 geological cross section between Mazatlán and Durango by Antonio del Castillo (Figure 4). Moreover, we have deposited in this storage high-resolution duplicates of Figures 2 to 5 and 9.
