Beyond patent law justifications : exploring geography as innovation catalyst
Abstract
The chapter critically examines narratives suggesting that patent law protection is essential to achieving sustainable innovation. It explores examples of innovation emerging independently of economic incentives provided by intellectual property rights, highlighting the intrinsic role of geography in advancing technological progress. It argues that to make the transition towards sustainable innovation, scholars and policy makers must shift their focus to geography.
