The role Meaning-making in the Representation of Otherness
Abstract
This study examines how generalized cultural worldviews shape individual attitudes toward otherness: explicit and implicit prejudice toward immigrants, national identity, social dominance orientation, and hostile attribution of intent. The study consisted of: - Self-report questionnaires (national identity, social dominance orientation, explicit prejudice towards immigrants); - IAT experiment, determining implicit associations towards foreigners, based on the response time latencies to the foreigner-conflict combination versus to the foreigner-cooperation combination. - Word-sentence attribution paradigm, measuring the tendency to attribute a hostile intent to the actions of the other.
