Memory and Metaphor

A series of studies to test recognition memory for figurative and formulaic phrases: Experiment 1 - figurative and literal collocations Experiment 2 - figurative and literal collocations, and novel metaphors Experiment 3 - figurative and literal collocations and modified versions of these Procedure in all experiments: 1. Phrases rated in a meaningfulness rating task, including baseline items and nonsensical fillers 2. Distractor task 3. Unannounced recognition memory task (Did you see this phrase in task 1, Y/N?), including items seen in task 1 and comparable items not seen in task 1
