Analysis of Flexural strength of PEEK in Tooth-Supported Fixed Prosthesis – A systematic review.
Abstract
This systematic review aims to critically evaluate the existing scientific literature on the fracture resistance of Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) when used in tooth-supported fixed dental prostheses. With growing interest in metal-free and aesthetic materials, PEEK has emerged as a promising biomaterial due to its favorable mechanical properties, biocompatibility, and high strength-to-weight ratio. However, the long-term durability and fracture resistance of PEEK in clinical and laboratory conditions remain subjects of ongoing research. This review compiles data from in vitro studies, finite element analyses, and limited clinical reports to assess how PEEK performs in comparison to traditional materials such as metal alloys and zirconia. The review follows PRISMA guidelines for systematic analysis, ensuring methodological transparency and scientific rigor. The objective is to determine whether PEEK can be considered a reliable material for fabricating tooth-supported fixed prostheses, especially in high-stress regions.
