Pioneering Mars
Abstract
Abstract: Humanity’s survival beyond Earth is an imperative driven by the finite lifespan of our planet, threatened by astronomical events (e.g., asteroid impacts, supernovae) and long-term geophysical processes (e.g., solar luminosity increase, CO₂ depletion). This paper proposes a multi-phase framework for human travel to Mars, leveraging existing and emerging space technologies. Key challenges—radiation exposure, isolation, microgravity, and resource scarcity—are addressed through innovative solutions, including the Martian Phoenix lander, a mini-propulsion system (MPS), and the Noor Exodus support module. The framework integrates NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS), Orion spacecraft, and SpaceX’s Starship with advanced life support systems (e.g., MOXIE, ECLSS) and in-situ resource utilization (ISRU). Collaboration among global space agencies is emphasized to ensure mission success, positioning Mars as a viable second home for humanity.
