Preplanning a directional movement strategy benefits visuomotor adaptation
Abstract
Engaging in movement strategies benefits visuomotor adaptation, with a directional movement strategy providing a distinct advantage. Results indicated that reporting one’s movement direction led to greater visuomotor adaptation early in training, and greater explicit contributions both during and following visuomotor adaptation, compared to those who reported their endpoint position or did not report a movement strategy. These findings highlight that the locus of one’s movement strategy impacts visuomotor adaptation and the engagement of underlying processes.
