Deforestation Metrics
Abstract
Satellite images are widely used to detect changes in vegetation cover. Since the 2000s, many methodologies have been implemented that use different satellites with distinct characteristics. However, none of these systems overcome the intrinsic limitation of orbital systems: detection discontinuity. In this research, we propose new spatio-temporal metrics to capture the spatial dynamics of ongoing deforestation, with the aim of improving law enforcement activity on the ground.
