Coherence-Optimized Control of Heterogeneous Lithium-Ion Battery Degradation
Abstract
This project presents a control-theoretic framework for managing lithium-ion battery degradation under heterogeneous and non-equilibrium conditions. Instead of treating aging as a spatially averaged scalar process, degradation is modeled as a path-dependent cost accumulated through local current flow. A degradation-aware cost functional is defined to enable dynamic current allocation that redistributes irreversible stress across cells. The work introduces no new electrochemical mechanisms; it reframes how known physical processes are actuated at the battery management system level. A minimal toy-model formulation is provided for simulation-based validation and collaboration.
