BIG FIVE
Abstract
The article is devoted to the development of a subject-oriented approach to designing a comfortable architectural environment based on users’ psychological characteristics identified through the Big Five model. The study substantiates the feasibility of integrating personality traits into the architectural decision-making process to improve quality of life, emotional well-being, and harmonious human–space interaction. The research methodology combines the analysis of scientific sources, logical-semantic correlation, and a survey of respondents (architecture students) who assessed the significance of four types of comfort (physical, psychological, social, emotional) in the context of Big Five facets. The survey results underwent statistical processing and normalization, enabling the creation of a weighted correspondence matrix between personality characteristics and comfort types. Based on the obtained data, a decision-making scheme is proposed, describing an algorithm for transforming a user’s psychological profile into design principles and specific architectural and interior solutions. The final stage presents an analytical matrix linking personality facets, comfort types, design principles, and examples of architectural solutions. The proposed toolkit makes it possible to move from abstract psychological characteristics to measurable spatial parameters that can be applied in BIM, BEM, and parametric modeling environments (Grasshopper). This opens up prospects for the development of intelligent decision-support systems capable of adapting the architectural environment to individual user needs. The study results confirm that the subject-oriented approach based on the Big Five model ensures a more personalized, adaptive, and emotionally favorable architectural environment, where technical, aesthetic, and psychological parameters form a unified systemic design model
