Abstract

This scoping review is conducted within the broader, funded Erasmus+ project “GameOn for Autism: Bridging Skills and Wellbeing with Digital Play” and constitutes the initial step intended to inform the subsequent project phases, including the refinement of design requirements and the development and adaptation of game-based resources for the wellbeing of young individuals with autism spectrum conditions (ASC). The primary aim is to identify and map the empirical literature on digital game–based and gamified interventions for autistic individuals targeting well-being and mental health–related outcomes. Building on this evidence base, the following aim is to derive best-practice recommendations from reported intervention design, delivery, and implementation features (eg, accessibility and inclusivity, personalization/adaptivity, stakeholder involvement and co-design, usability, feasibility, and engagement), and highlight key evidence gaps.
