Molecular Docking
Abstract
Molecular dockingis a computational method that plays a crucial role in modern drug discovery and development. This technique is used to predict the position, orientation, and affinity of a small molecule (ligand) for a target protein (receptor) at the molecular level. The basic principle of docking is to find the best conformation between the ligand and receptor to obtain a complex with the lowest binding energy and highest stability. The main goal of docking is to understand interaction patterns, assess binding affinity, and estimate the inhibitory potential of a compound against a biological target. In the process, molecular dockingdone with the help of software such asMolecular Operating Environment (MOE)which allows researchers to prepare ligand and receptor structures, determine active sites, and perform docking simulations efficiently. This process also includes a validation stage to ensure the accuracy of the method and the results obtained. With proper implementation, molecular dockingcan speed up the process virtual screeningthousands of potential compounds computationally, thus helping to identify new drug candidates more cost- and time-efficiently than experimental methods.
