Metode Perhitungan dalam Kimia Komputasi
Abstract
Computational chemistry offers a variety of approaches to studying the structure, energetics, and properties of molecules through mathematical calculations. Key methods include molecular mechanics (MM), semiempirical, ab initio, and density functional theory (DFT). MM uses empirical force fields to describe atomic interactions, making it effective for large systems but limited in predicting chemical reactions. Semiempirical combines the Hartree–Fock principle with empirical parameters, making it faster and more suitable for medium-sized molecules, although its accuracy depends on the parameter database. Ab initio starts from the Schrödinger equation without empirical parameters, providing a strong theoretical foundation but is computationally expensive. DFT offers a balance between efficiency and accuracy by exploiting electron density, although its results depend on the choice of functional. Each method has advantages and disadvantages, so the choice of approach should be tailored to the size of the system, the research objectives, and the chemical properties to be predicted.
